Decoding Adaptation
Environmental stress is a fact of existence on Earth. Every organism that has ever lived has learnt to face it. Over millions of years this stress has translated into complex chemical solutions stored within the genomes of life. We decode this language of survival, and translate it in into skincare.
Four Ecosystems One Planet
Environmental stress is entirely based on position and climate. A desert plant experiences a very different world to that of a rainforest fungi. As a result their adaptations, and thus their chemical composition are wildly divergent. In order to focus on certain adaptations we split the planet into four main ecosystems. Cornish, Desert, Rainforest, and Alpine.
Ecosystem Focus
The result of each ecosystem's differing climatic conditions are evident within it's occupants. Desert life has developed a suite of chemicals to deal with intense UV and dehydration. This, in contrast to Alpine life, that generates metabolites to battle freezing winds and high altitudes.
Skincare Translation
Our job as formulators is to bring the lessons we learn from these ecosystems into the lab, and study how we can translate them into effective skincare solutions.
