Shade Barrier Face Mist
Evening Comes

There is a moment, somewhere between brushing your teeth and finally conceding to sleep, where your skin quietly gets to work. The lights go down, the cortisol retreats, and the machinery of cellular repair shifts up a gear. Growth hormone peaks. Cell division accelerates. And skin permeability rises — meaning your barrier becomes more receptive to active ingredients, while simultaneously more susceptible to water loss. The night is when your skin is simultaneously industrious and vulnerable.
Shade is an evening facial mist designed to meet your skin at exactly that moment. Not to interfere with it. Not to slap a single overworked "miracle" ingredient at a single concern and call it a day. But to provide the raw materials, the building blocks, and the biological support that your skin's own nocturnal machinery is already looking for.
Why a Mist?
A mist applies evenly, without dragging or friction. It layers underneath, over, or alongside serums and moisturisers without competing with them. It absorbs quickly, leaving no residue on your pillow.
Most importantly, the lightweight aqueous format allows Shade's actives to be delivered at precise, effective concentrations — without the occlusive heaviness of a mask or the potential irritation of a high-percentage serum.
The architecture of a formula
Shade's efficacy is built on three tiers of ingredients, each playing a distinct biological role.
The hero actives
The first is Chaga mushroom extract (Inonotus obliquus), harvested from birch trees in cold northern climates. Chaga is one of the most well-documented antioxidant ingredients in nature, with a rich bioactive profile that includes polysaccharides, triterpenes, and melanin. Its polysaccharides bind and retain water molecules within the skin much like hyaluronic acid; its beta-glucans and triterpenes calm inflammation; and its betulinic acid — absorbed from the birch trees on which Chaga grows — has been shown to stimulate collagen synthesis in skin cells. By day, free radicals accumulate. By night, Chaga helps repair the damage.
The second hero is Chondrus crispus (Irish Moss), a red seaweed harvested from the rocky Atlantic coastline. Irish Moss forms a breathable, occlusive polysaccharide film on the skin surface that locks in moisture and reduces water loss overnight. It is dense in minerals — iodine, potassium, calcium, magnesium — that support cellular function and ionic balance within the skin. Its amino acids and peptides provide building blocks for collagen and elastin production, while its anti-inflammatory properties make it well-suited to sensitive and reactive skin. It has been used in traditional skincare for centuries. It turns out there was good reason for that.
The secondary actives
These bring three further layers of targeted support. Gigartina stellata, a second red seaweed from the Atlantic, has clinical data showing measurable improvements in skin firmness and dermal matrix restructuring — supporting the collagen and elastin networks that keep skin looking lifted and supple over time. Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum), known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as the "mushroom of immortality," has been shown in modern studies to support collagen synthesis and protect fibroblasts from oxidative stress, while its triterpenes actively reduce inflammation markers in skin. White willow bark rounds out this tier with natural salicylate precursors that support gentle overnight clarification and skin refinement. As a trio, they address firmness, resilience, and clarity — simultaneously.
The supporting cast
This is where heritage meets biotech. MossCellTec™ No.1, a proprietary moss-derived complex, enhances cellular nucleus function and has been shown in clinical studies to reduce transepidermal water loss and improve barrier integrity. Lavender, geranium, and sage floral waters provide gentle conditioning alongside a herbal, fresh aroma. Witch hazel leaf water tones and refines. Evening primrose extract restores lipid layers with omega-6 fatty acids. Apple fruit extract brings natural AHAs for quiet exfoliation while you sleep. The formula is completed with hyaluronic acid, betaine, panthenol, and allantoin — dependable, evidence-backed workhorses that support everything around them.
Three things Shade does, simultaneously
Advanced overnight hydration
Delivered through three complementary mechanisms working in concert. Humectants draw moisture into the skin. Polysaccharide films from the seaweed extracts lock it in. And the mushroom polysaccharides bind water molecules at the cellular level, ensuring sustained hydration through the night. By morning: plumper, smoother texture and reduced fine-line appearance.
Barrier resilience and repair
MossCellTec's clinically validated barrier support, alongside Chaga and Reishi's anti-inflammatory action and evening primrose's lipid replenishment. Calmer, more resilient skin; reduced sensitivity; improved comfort. Particularly relevant for skin that faces urban pollution, climate stress, or simply the grinding attrition of modern life.
Collagen support and visible firming
Chaga's betulinic acid stimulates collagen synthesis; Irish Moss and Gigartina peptides provide amino acid building blocks; Reishi supports fibroblasts and the skin's natural collagen-producing processes. This is preventive anti-ageing in the most accurate sense: not masking, but building.
Who Shade is for
Anyone whose skin faces daily life and needs nightly support — which is to say, everyone. The formula is pH-optimised to align with the skin's natural barrier, free from alcohol, and built on a multi-layer preservative system that provides robust protection without drying the formula out. It is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and barrier-compromised skin.
Shade arrives this Autumn.
