Cucumis sativus
Cucumber is a crisp, elongated green fruit from a vining annual plant which originates from India. It hydrates and refreshes within skincare formulations. Here it is loved for its soothing coolness and anti-inflammatory properties

“Cooling by nature, it soothes the skin into a more balanced state.”
Benefits
Cucumber refreshes skin with vitamin C, caffeic acid, cucurbitacins, and phytosterols. It provides intense hydration, anti-inflammatory action, antioxidant protection, and pore-tightening for calm, even-toned skin

History
Cucumber traces a long lineage in skincare—from its place in Cleopatra’s beauty rituals and ancient Greek remedies for swelling, to 18th-century European 'pommades au concombre', where it was blended with rich bases to refine the complexion. By the 20th century, its use became iconic, with chilled slices applied to the eyes to visibly soothe and de-puff—securing its status as a symbol of calm, restorative care.

Cultivation
Cucumber vines thrive in warm, sunlit conditions, rooted in fertile, well-drained loam with a balanced pH of 6–7. Consistent moisture and considered trellising support airflow and encourage a more refined yield. Seeds are sown after the last frost in spaced rows or gentle mounds, with mulching to preserve hydration. Harvested young and regularly through the height of summer, the fruit remains at its most tender and composed.

Harvest & Extraction
Fruits are gathered young and firm at first light during peak season, then cold-pressed or freshly juiced to preserve delicate antioxidants and water-soluble compounds such as cucurbitacins. The result is a clear, refined extract, valued for its light texture and naturally cooling effect in skincare formulations.
